Kebby Musokotwane

Kebby Sililo Kambulu Musokotwane (* May 5, 1946, † 11 February 1996) was a Zambian politician and former prime minister.

After studying at Livingstone Teachers College and the University of Zambia, he worked as a teacher and lecturer.

Musokotwane, a member of the United National Independence Party ( UNIP ), was one of the closest allies of former President Kenneth Kaunda. In whose governments he was first Minister of Water and Natural Resources from 1977 to 1978, Minister of Youth and Sports in 1979, Finance Minister from 1979 to 1983 and Minister of Education and culture of 1983 until 1985.

Kaunda finally called him on April 24, 1985 for the successor of Nalumino Mundia as Prime Minister. On March 15, 1989, he gave this office to Malimba Masheke.

Instead, he became secretary-general of the UNIP and thus second husband after the chairman Kaunda. Between 1990 and 1991 he was High Commissioner in Canada.

When Kaunda stepped down as chairman of the UNIP in October 1992 after the election defeat in 1991, with the support of Musokotwane Kaunda became his successor. In 1993 he was involved in a scandal when he admitted that a radical wing of the UNIP tried to overthrow the government of President Frederick Chiluba.

In May 2006, he was posthumously honored by President Levy Mwanawasa, entitled " Grand Commander of the Companion Order of Freedom".
