Elijah Mudenda

Elijah Haatuakali Kaiba Mudenda (* June 6, 1927 in Macha Village / Choma, † November 2, 2008 in Lusaka ) was a Zambian politician and former prime minister.

Mudenda equipped with a "Master of Arts " and another study at the University of Cambridge completed a course of study at Makerere University and the University of Fort Hare in South Africa with a "Bachelor of Science in Agriculture", one of the first Zambian politician was with completed tertiary education. After returning to his home country, he worked as a research officer in a plant breeding laboratory. In 1962, he became politically active.

After the declaration of independence in 1964 Mudenda was appointed by President Kenneth Kaunda Minister of Agriculture. 1967 he was appointed Minister of Finance and 1969 and from 1970 to 1973 as Foreign Minister. As such, he was also a member of several international committees.

On May 27, 1975 President Kaunda appointed him after the resignation of Mainza Chona prime minister. As such, he was particularly comprehensive authority in economic matters, particularly to boost the industries outside of mining. On July 20, 1977, he was, however, again replaced by Mainza Chona as Prime Minister. Then Mudenda then has only been out of party offices and retired in the late 1990s finally from politics.
