Kebun Raya Cibodas

Cibodas is a village just below the Puncak Pass, Java, Indonesia on the route between Bogor and Bandung.

The place is located at the main entrance to Gede Pangrango National Park at the foot of the summit of Gede volcano. From the park entrance, a path leads to a small lake ( Telaga Biru ), a waterfall ( Cibeureum Falls, 1 hour), hot springs (2 ½ hours) and on to the two volcanic peaks (10-12 hours walking each ). The place is characterized by manicured gardens and plants outlets of the many nursery farms here.

Botanical Garden Cibodas

The main attraction is the Botanical Garden ( Kebun Raya Cibodas ), which is a branch of the Botanical Garden in Bogor and this in size even exceeds 125 hectares. It was founded on 11 April 1862 by John Elias Teijsmann, curator at the botanical garden Bogor, named Bergtuin Tjibodas ( Mountain Estates Cibodas ). Originally conceived as a place for acclimatization of plants of foreign origin of great economic importance such as the China bark tree, he later became a part of the Botanical Garden in Bogor and today is one of four Indonesian botanical gardens. Located at 1300-1425 meters above sea level garden is now home to 5831 plant of 1205 different species. In the park there are several natural and artificial waterfalls. Focal points of the park are tropical highland plants, but its range includes palms, ferns, conifers, araucaria, bamboo, Euphorbia and Myrtaceae collections. The greenhouse collection includes more than 4,000 species, including 350 species of succulent plants and 360 species of orchids.
