Keele (TTC)

Keele is an above-ground subway station in Toronto. It lies on the Bloor- Danforth line of the Toronto Subway, at the intersection of Bloor Street and Keele Street. The station has side platforms, is used daily by an average of 14,800 passengers (2009 /10).

It offers connecting flights to three bus lines, beyond the commuters is a park -and-ride with 221 parking spaces are available. Directly west of Keele Street enters the route of a tunnel under a hill on a dam, thus achieving the increased lying, fully lived station. The dam crosses the Keele Street and the parallel side street Indian Grove. Just east of the station cross the line on a bridge the underlying parking. Afterwards it will be at ground level until shortly before Dundas West.

History

The opening of the station took place on 26 February 1966 in conjunction with the section Keele - Woodbine. Just over two years Keele was the western terminus. The tram along Bloor Street was shut down for the most part, but initially remained a short branch line to the vicinity of the station. A specially built for this purpose turning loop was located two blocks east of the main entrance at Indian Grove. To facilitate access, let the Toronto Transit Commission to build a short connecting tunnel, which even had a moving walkway. Despite the great effort, this approach did not last long. The opening of the subway extension to Islington on 11 May 1968, the tram service finally ended on Bloor Street and the short tunnel was bricked.
