Kenchappa Varadaraj

KV Varadaraj ( Kenchappa Varadaiah Varadaraj; born May 7, 1924 in Mysore, † 20 December, 2011 Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore Urban) was an Indian football goalkeeper.

Career

Varadaraj, which was occupied by the British press nicknamed Six - footer, graduated with the Indian national team three "major" tournaments. He took with India in the Olympic Summer Games in 1948, came there to use one. Three years later at the Asian Games 1951 in New Delhi, he won the gold medal with India. Also at the Summer Olympics 1952, he belonged to the Sailendra Nath Manna squad led by India, but did not play.

Varadaraj played in the 1940s for the Mysore and took FC at club level between 1945 and 1949 at the Santosh Trophy in some contest, which he won in 1946 with Mysore. He was also player of the Union Challenge Mysore, Mysore Railways, Bangalore Blues and Mohun Bagan AC. His career ended at HMT. After his playing days, he worked as a coach for HMT and also as a referee.

Varadaraj, son of K. Varadaiah and Thimmakka, had two sons and two daughters. Other terms and press releases speak of two sons and only one daughter and have him at the time of his death as 89- year old.
