Bangalore Urban district

The district Bangalore Urban ( Kannada: ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ " Bangalore City ", also: Bangalore district ) is a district of the Indian state of Karnataka. It includes Bangalore (Bengaluru ), the capital of Karnataka and the third largest city in India, including the surrounding areas.

Geography

The district Bangalore Urban Karnataka lies in the southeast on the border with state of Tamil Nadu. Neighboring districts are in the West Ramanagara, Bangalore Rural in the north or east ( both belong to the state of Karnataka ) and Krishnagiri ( Tamil Nadu ) in the south.

The district Bangalore Urban has an area of 2,190 square kilometers. By area, it is the smallest district of Karnataka. The area is largely urbanized and includes the agglomeration of Bangalore as well as some surrounding areas. The district Bangalore Urban is divided into four taluks Bangalore North, Bangalore South, Bangalore East and Anekal.

History

The district Bangalore Urban district goes back to Bangalore. This was one of the districts of the Princely State of Mysore during the British colonial period. After the independence of India Mysore took place in 1949 following the Indian Union. 1956, the district Bangalore had to the limits of the Kannada language in accordance with the new state of Mysore (1973 renamed Karnataka ), whose capital was now Bangalore. In its present form, the district Bangalore Urban since 1986, when the former district of Bangalore was divided into the districts of Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural. The latter included until 2007, today's Ramanagara district.

Population

According to the 2011 census, the district Bangalore Urban has 9,588,910 inhabitants. The population density is 4,378 inhabitants per square kilometer, the proportion of the urban population is 90.9 percent. This Bangalore Urban is by far the most populous, most densely populated and most urbanized district of Karnataka. Due to the strong economic growth of the " Boom Town " Bangalore, the district experienced rapid population growth: Between 2001 and 2011 the population of the district Bangalore Urban grew by 46.7 percent, while the growth rate for the whole of Karnataka in the same period was 15.7 percent. The literacy rate in the district Bangalore Urban is at 88.5 percent, the second highest of all districts of Karnataka and is well above the average for the state ( 76.1 percent).

The population of the district Bangalore Urban set by the 2001 census Hindus with 79.4 per cent majority. There are also significant minorities of Muslims ( 13.4 per cent ), Christians ( 5.8 percent ) and Jains ( 1.1 percent ).
