Chikkaballapur district

The district Chikballapur ( Kannada: ಚಿಕ್ಕಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ) is a district of the Indian state of Karnataka. Administrative center is the eponymous town of Chikballapur.

Geography

The district is located in southeastern Karnataka Chikballapur on the border with the state of Andhra Pradesh. Neighboring districts are in the southeast Kolar, Bangalore Rural in the south, Tumkur in the West ( all belonging to Karnataka ) and Andhra Pradesh Anantapur Chittoor in the north and the east.

The district Chikballapur has an area of ​​4,209 square kilometers. The district area consists of a plateau in the southern part of the Deccan Plateau, from the isolated foothills of the Eastern Ghats protrude. The most striking observation, are around ten kilometers south of the district capital Chikballapur located Nandi Hills (also known as Nandidurg ) whose highest peak reaches a height of 1,478 meters above sea level. Among the Nandi Hills the rivers Palar and Ponnaiyar, both of which flow into the Bay of Bengal.

History

During the British colonial period, the area now Chikballapur district belonged to the Kolar district of the princely state of Mysore. After Mysore had joined after the Indian independence the Indian Union, the territory of Chikballapur 1956 a part of the newly formed according to the language limitations of the Kannada State of Mysore was (1973 renamed Karnataka ). 2007, divided the district from Chikballapur as an independent district of Kolar district.

Population

According to the Indian census of 2011, the district Chikballapur has 1,254,377 inhabitants.
