Kenmore (MBTA-Station)

Kenmore is the name of an underground Light rail station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) on the eponymous Kenmore Square in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the branches B, C and D of the U- tram Green Line at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue, Beacon Street and Brookline Avenue. She is - depending on the direction - the last or first joint station of the three branches. The Green Line E is united only at the Copley station with the main line.

History

The Kenmore Station was opened on 23 October 1932. From the beginning, she was hit by the branches B and C. 1959 drove the first train of the branch D the station, and to its setting in the year 1969, the Green Line A, the tracks of the station informed the branch B.

In 1996, the station leading due to the flood Muddy Rivers was completely flooded. The incident was only the second of its kind after 1962 and was classified as severe.

Railway facilities

Track, signaling and safety systems

The underground station has four tracks, which are accessible via two central platforms. The moving trains into town the branches C and D hold on the outer tracks, the trains of the B- branch use the inner tracks. The northern platform provides access to out of town moving trains all branches, while the southern all served moving into town. To the west is located just behind the station Überwerfungsbauwerk for the rest of the B- branch. The branches C and D are split later on at an intersection.

The Kenmore -loop

A turning loop, referred to officially as Kenmore Loop (English Kenmore Loop), connecting the tracks of the branches C and D together, allowing a change of direction, without having to use the subway tunnel. Since the Green Line B should be converted into a full-fledged subway, the Kenmore loop was originally intended for a direction change of vehicles of the Green Line C, which should not continue in the Tremont Street Subway. The plans were all rejected, so that the loop is now used mainly at night to park vehicles.

Building

The metro station is located at the address 500 Commonwealth Avenue right on the Kenmore Square and is completely accessible.
