Kenneth Nowakowski

Kenneth Anthony Adam Nowakowski (Ukrainian: Кеннет Новаківський, born May 16, 1958 in North Battleford, Canada ) is the reigning Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishop of New Westminster in Canada.

Life

Kenneth Nowakowski was the second of three sons of Stanley and Roma Nowakowski family. He attended primary school in Battleford and then went to high school in North Battleford. He then worked in various fields, he then took part in a training program in the house of the Redemptorists in Toronto part. Following this, he moved to the University of Toronto and St. Michael's Collegeder in 1984 graduated with a Bachelor of Religious Studies and Philosophy from. He was then a seminarian at the Pontifical Ukrainian College of St. Josaphat in Rome and obtained in 1989 at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, the Bachelor of Theology.

Kenneth Nowakowski was ordained by Bishop Basil Filevich ( Eparchy of Saskatoon ) for diocesan priest on 19 August 1989. In the autumn of 1989 he returned to Rome and began a study of Canon Law for the Eastern Churches. In response to the constant increase of refugees from the Ukraine he founded and led in Rome, the Ukrainian refugee office.

In Lviv

In June 1990 he became deputy vicar general at Cardinal Myroslav Ivan Lubachivsky, who ruled in exile in Rome. In 1991 he returned with Cardinal Lubachivsky back to Lviv. From 1991 to 1992 he was vice-rector of Holy Spirit Seminary of archeparchy Lviv. In 1994 he founded the Ukrainian Caritasund was its president until 2001.

In Canada

In November 2001 he was appointed rector of the seminary of Ottawa and took over in October 2002 at the same time the Office of the Press Secretary for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Canada. During the World Youth Day in Canada in 2002, he headed the Pontifical Liaison Office for Media and assisted the Press Office of the Holy See. Nowakowski was appointed member of the Commission for adult catechesis in the Canadian Bishops' Conference. In July 2006 he was appointed Vicar General of the Eparchy of Saskatoon. While the Holy Father John Paul II to Ukraine (2001 ) of the Pastoral Visit priest Nowakowski was the director of the press office of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

Bishop

On 1 June 2007 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of New Westminster. Archbishop Lawrence Huculak, OSBM Daniel Winnipeg consecrated him, together with the co-consecrators Bishop Sewerian Stefan Yakymyshyn of New Westminster and Bishop Peter Stasiuk of Melbourne, Bishop. Bishop Nowakowski was Mitkonsekrator at Bryan Joseph Bayda, C.Ss.R. Bishop of Saskatoon.
