The Dutch couple Jenny Visser - Hooft and P. Ch Visser researched Hispargebiet 1924 and named the glacier in the west of the mountain Kunyanggletscher. They were based on numbers of residents. 1938 took over the Briton Michael Vivyan the name of the glacier on the mountain. Eric Shipton published in 1939, however, a card on which the glaciers were registered as Khiang Glacier and the mountain as Khinyang Chhish. An Italian map of 1960 used the name Khnyang Chhish and Khnyang Glacier. The Swiss geologist and topographer Marcel Short used the term Khyang and on the basis that Shipton. Anders Bolinder and GO Dyhrenfurth finally established the spelling Khiangyang Kish, which was also used by the Polish Erstbesteigern in anticipation of the expedition. They found out in 1971 that the name Kunyang Chhish is both the official Pakistani formulation as well as the only accepted by the locals variant.
