Kijong-dong

Kijong - dong, a village near Panmunjeom in the North Korean province of Hwanghae- pukto. It is one of two villages in the demilitarized zone of the Korean peninsula ( DMZ).

On the part of North Korea Kijong -dong is called a " peace village", titled in South Korea, however, with " Propaganda Village". Less than two kilometers away is Daeseong -dong, the only inhabited South Korean village in the DMZ, which in turn received the propagandistic nickname " Freedom Village".

Population

Supposedly houses the Kijong -dong an agricultural cooperative called " Panmun " with more than 200 households and a kindergarten, a school and a hospital. However, it is reported in Kijong -dong if it were a Potemkin village, from where will agitating means speakers and whose only inhabitants are members of the Korean People's Army. At night, lights were turned on in some buildings, this being done always at the same time and in the same buildings. At various times, but also field workers and building keepers have been seen in Kijong -dong.

Attractions

Kijong -dong distinguished from a truss tower, which is the third highest flagpole in the world with a height of 160 meters. The tip carries a nearly 270 kg heavy flag of North Korea. The mast was originally much shorter, but was increased after a similar, almost 100 -meter-high flagpole was erected in Daeseong -dong, who towered over its North Korean counterpart.
