Kingfisher Sky

Kingfisher Sky is a Dutch progressive metal band from The Hague, South Holland. Their debut album Hallway of Dreams was published in October 2007 by Suburban Records.

Band History

In 2001, Ivar de Graaf made ​​the decision to leave the successful Dutch band Within Temptation and instead focus on his own music. Together with singer Judith Rijnveld he was looking for a way to combine its two major musical influences into songs that should not be tied to a specific genre or style. With influences such as Porcupine Tree and Kate Bush, but also opera singers such as Cecilia Bartoli and traditional folk music in her head she started in 2005 to record their songs in home studio.

With seven songs completed, they went to Suburban Records and signed a record deal in 2006. Bassist Eric Hoogendoorn came as the first band member to do so. In January 2007, before Ruud Jolie (guitarist of Within Temptation ) Ivar and Judith Daan Janzing. After a short audition Janzig Kingfisher Sky joined also. In March, George van Olffen followed on the keyboard. Because of his solos in the song " Through My Eyes" and his 15-year friendship with Ivar finally completed Edo van der Kolk (guitar) the band. In May 2007, took on Kingfisher Sky Hallway of Dreams their first album; produced by Jochem Jacobs ( Textures ) and Bouke Visser ( Split Second Sound). The debut album was released in October 2007 under the label Suburban Records. By Suburban Records also the contact for concert promoters SOZ Concerts, organized the first performances in the Netherlands was born.

Because they wanted to offer the audience at a concert in their hometown of something special, they asked Maaike Peterse in January 2008 to accompany the song " Big Fish " with the cello. Since this cooperation proved extremely successful, Maaike was seventh band member. In March 2008, the label Laser 's Edge Records ( Riverside, Zero Hour ) " Hallway of Dreams" in the United States of America published. Tonefloat Records ( Porcupine Tree, Roger Waters) published the album also on vinyl. In August 2008, the release of " Hallway of Dreams" in Japan ( Disk Union ) followed. Meanwhile the album in the UK, Italy, France and Germany is available. In July 2009, keyboardist George van Olffen left the band to pursue other musical interests. A permanent replacement was with David Gutiérrez Rojas found which met in November the band. Guitarist Daan Janzing left the band in late April 2010 to devote himself entirely to his future band My Favorite Scar can. On the second studio album Skin of the Earth, however, he is yet to hear.

Style

Ivars progressive rock and traditional folk influences met Judith's classical background and her love of soul music and artists such as Aretha Franklin. From this mixture, combined with their shared fondness for bands and artists such as Porcupine Tree, Jethro Tull, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and Tori Amos, created new songs.
