Kinzig Valley Railway (Black Forest)

The Kinzig Valley Railway is a railway line that runs from Hausach to Freudenstadt and the eponymous river Kinzig follows. The route has many tunnel is single track and not electrified.

History

The Kinzig Valley Railway was opened on July 5, 1878 by Hausach to Wolfach of the Baden State Railways and extended to Schiltach on 4 November 1886. Simultaneously, the Royal Württemberg State Railways gave the free section of Schiltach to Freudenstadt Hbf for the operation.

Route

In Hausach the route branches off at km 33.17 of the Black Forest Railway. Until shortly after Schiltach ( km 14.760 ) the chainage is ascending. Then she is starting in Eutingen in Gaeu, descending, as the track behind Schenkenzell changes from Badischer on territory of Württemberg. At the terminus Freudenstadt Hbf start Murgtalbahn to Rastatt and the Gäubahn towards Eutingen and Stuttgart.

Formerly chain of Schiltach also the railway line from Schiltach - Schramberg. This line was opened in 1892 and 1959 for public transport (PT ) and 1990 shut down for freight transport. At the train station Schiltach the old railway bridge reminded about the Kinzig of this track, which is completely degraded in the course today. Between Schiltach and Schramberg the former railway line is used as a bike path on the old railway yard Schramberger creates a food market.

Traction

The formerly run by Deutsche Bahn AG route was taken over by the Ortenau S-Bahn GmbH (OSB) on 12 December 2004. Since there is every hour continuous rides from Freudenstadt Hbf to Offenburg, which is driven by Hausach to Offenburg on the Baden Black Forest Railway. The Train meeting place mostly in Alpirsbach to the usual symmetry minute place shortly before the hour. Most trains run via Offenburg continue to Bad Griesbach, the terminus of the railway Renchtal. On weekend mornings is a train through to the French Strasbourg. For use are air-conditioned Regio -Shuttle Ortenau S-Bahn. On " normal days " use about 2200 people, the train services on the Kinzig Valley Railway.
