Kirengeshoma palmata

Kirengeshoma is a plant genus of the family of hydrangea plants ( Hydrangeaceae ). The genus includes two species that are native to East Asia.

Description

The species of the genus are perennial, herbaceous plants that grow from a rhizome. The stalked, opposite leaves are palmately lobed and toothed at the edge.

The inflorescences are panicles zymöse. Barren flowers missing. The five sepals are superimposed klappig, the calyx tube jutting out. The five imbricated petals are spatulate and creamy white to yellow.

The stamens of about 15 stamens are commended shaped, the non Stylodien grow. The medium-sized ovary is three to vierfächrig, hang the ovules. The fruit is a capsule that scheidewandspaltig and fachspaltig opens at Kronblattansatz to release the numerous, 4-10 mm long, laterally flattened and winged seeds.

The chromosome numbers be 2n = 52 or 54

Dissemination

The species of the genus are native to East Asia ( Japan, Korea, China) and are found there in mountain forests.

Botanical history and systematics

The genus was first described in 1890 by Ryokichi Yatabe, type species is Kirengeshoma palmata. Within the family, it is placed in the subfamily Hydrangeoideae and there in the tribe Philadelpheae.

The genus includes two species:

  • Japanese wax bell ( Kirengeshoma palmata Yatabe )
  • Koreana Nakai Kirengeshoma

Some authors Kirengeshoma koreana is also provided to Kirengeshoma palmata.
