Knattspyrnufélagið Fram

Fram Reykjavík ( Isl: Knattspyrnufélagid Fram, German: Football club forward ) is an Icelandic sports club from Reykjavík. The official club colors are blue and white, venue is the Icelandic National Stadium Laugardalsvöllur.

The club has one of the Islands most successful football teams. In his history as a whole was 18 times the Icelandic Cup and 8 times the Icelandic Cup be won.

History

The club was founded on May 1, 1908 and thus after the Icelandic champions KR Reykjavík record one of the oldest football clubs in Iceland. 1914 were incorporated into the club FR Fálkinn Reykjavík Reykjavík KF and 1915.

In the early years, the club dominated with six consecutive championships in 1913 and 1918, founded in 1912, major league. In its centuries old Fram Reykjavík played the majority of the time in the island's first football league. Only in the years 1928, 1966, 1983, 1996 and 2006 were played after descents in the second league, but always managed to direct ascent. Internationally could always be considered a success: as they moved in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1985/86 after a 3-1 and a 0-1 one on the Northern Irish representatives Glentoran FC in the second round. There you failed, however the Austrian giants Rapid Vienna. The greatest success of the club's history was achieved in the 1990/91 season in the same competition: after the Swedish participants Djurgårdens IF sensationally defeated 3-0 and 1-1, they met in the second round at FC Barcelona. Although in the first leg was even a goal, Fram difference anyway with 1:2 and 3:0.

A certain level of recognition attained the club in Germany, when he met in the group stage of the UEFA Cup in 1992/93 to 1 FC Kaiserslautern. Both outbound and return leg won Kaiserslautern, however, significantly 3-0 or 4-0.

The last championship was won in 1990 and the last Cup victory in 1989, with a total of Fram was 17 times in the cup final.

In the 2008 season the club reached the third place in the league and failed to qualify 2009/10 thus to participate in the UEFA Europa League. There succeeded after two wins against The New Saints FC from Wales reaching the third qualifying round. After a respectable 1-1 draw at Sigma Olomouc they lost to the Czech first division side in the return leg at home 0-2.

In the 2009 season the club was defeated in the Icelandic Cup final against Breiðablik Kópavogur 6:7 nE (2-2 aet) while finishing the league in fourth place and thus narrowly missed qualifying for the international competition.
