Kōfu, Yamanashi

Kōfu (Japanese甲 府 市, -shi, of Kōshū - Fuchū, ie dt " administrative seat of Kōshū " ) is a city and the administrative headquarters of Yamanashi Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. Kofu is located approximately in the middle between Nagoya and Tokyo in the interior. Currently, about 200,000 people live in the city.

Geography

Kofu is located centrally in the prefecture, in the middle of the Kofu Basin (甲 府 盆地), near the Chiyoda Lake and Arakawa.

History

In the Middle Ages Kōfu was ruled as Joka -machi first from the Takeda clan (Takeda Shingen ), after the expiry of the Takeda clan by the Oda clan ( Oda Nobunaga ) and after the Oda clan from the Asano clan ( daimyo Toyotomi Hideyoshi ). In the Edo period, the city was under the direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Economy and Transport

Industry
