Komsi is a village (Estonian küla ) in Lääne in Estonia. Komsi is the capital and administrative center of the rural community Hanila ( Hanila vald ).

Population and location

The village has 135 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It is located ten kilometers north-east of the port Virtsu. The place houses a kindergarten and a primary school and a village hall and a library.

Near the village center is situated on a field of boulder Soomadise rändrahn. He is since 1964 under state protection. Its perimeter is 17 m.

Orthodox Church

Under the Sign of Russification of Estonia an Orthodox church was founded in 1884. Until 1978, was located in what is now the district Uue- Virtsu an Orthodox church with its cemetery. The 1889 built by the architect K. Nyman church of the Nativity is only ruins today. The services of the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church find today held in the parish hall.

Burial sites

Two hundred meters from the church there are two Tarandgräber from the Iron Age. It stands in a cemetery for cremation from the 11th to the 13th century.
