Vatla ( Wattel German ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Hanila ( Hanila vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The village has 158 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It is located 43 kilometers south-east of the district capital of Haapsalu. The area of ​​the village is twelve square kilometers.

History

In 1320, the German Order sold under the Livonian Order Master Gerard of York the village to the Cistercian monastery in Padise. As of 1402, the region was in possession of the nunnery of Lihula. 1582 went to the local estate into private hands.
