The ruins of the royal castle in the Harz is a ruined castle southeast of Chorzow, a district of Upper am Brocken, in the Harz district in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geographical location

The ruins of the royal castle located in the Harz Nature Park / Saxony- Anhalt, on the outskirts of the village of Chorzów southwest below the Katzenberg's ( 475.8 m above sea level. NN ) to approximately 460 m above sea level. NN. About 250 m northeast lies the confluence of the warm and the cold Bode. From the ruins you look for, among other worm mountain and Brocken.

History

1312 the plant was first mentioned as " castrum royal court " in documents when Bishop Albrecht of Halberstadt from the castle miners Heinrich von Botvelde purchased commercially. 1324 there is a further mention as " castrum Köningshof acqisivit ", then it was quiet around the castle, which was first described in 1709 as a royal castle. At that time the plant had already decayed into ruin.

When Paul Höfer conducted from 1898 to 1901, extensive excavations in the years that he was assuming to have the long-sought Palatinate Bodfeld on. He published several times about it. 1931 was detected by advances in soil research this as a mistake by Carl Schuch Hardt and subsequently confirmed little by Paul Grimm, who noted that the finds, especially the pottery, not older than the 13th century are. Although these research results of 1930 have been recognized in scientific research consistently is still promoted today in Chorzów so that the royal castle is hunting Palatinate Bodfeld and one of the most historic places of the resin.

Conditioning and Hiking

From the former castle now customized the remains of the keep and several ditches and banks. The ruins of the royal castle is included as # 41 in the system of stamp locations of the Harz hiking pin.
