Konrad VI the Dean

Konrad VI. of Oels ( Konrad VI " dean ."; Latin Conradus Decanus * 1387/1391; † September 3, 1427 ) was from 1412 until his death in 1427 together with his brothers Duke of Oels and from 1416 duke of Steinau. His surname is derived from the office of the dean at the Breslau cathedral chapter, which he held from 1414.

Life

Konrad VI. " Dean " came from a branch of the Silesian Piast Glogau. He was the third-born son of the Duke Konrad III. of Oels († 1412 ) and Jutta / balances, its origin is not known. He had four brothers who also contributed to the tradition of the house Oels in accordance with the name Konrad. To distinguish among themselves they are therefore designated by individual epithet. In addition, Konrad VI had. two sisters: Euphemia († 1444 ), the first marriage with the Elector Albrecht III. of Saxe- Wittenberg ( † 1422 ) and then was married to the Prince George I of Anhalt- Zerbst († 1444 ) and Hedwig († 1447/53 ), wife of Duke Henry IX. of Glogau († 1467 ).

After the death of his father Conrad III. 1412 were Konrad VI. and his brothers first under the guardianship of her eldest brother Conrad IV "senior"; he first took over the joint government of the duchies of oil which Cosel and Steinau and semi Bytom. Even after 1416 made ​​formal division of the paternal inheritance, the brothers managed their territories partially together. As Konrad VI. " Dean " as well as his brothers Conrad IV "senior" and Konrad VIII " the boy " turned towards the clergy, practiced the second-born Konrad V. " Kanthner " and the fourth- born Konrad VII "Old White " the regency and therefore were beneficiaries of inherited possessions. To mitigate the financial difficulties of his brothers, bought the eldest brother Conrad IV, "senior", which was since 1417 Bishop of Breslau, 1419 by virtue of his office himself and his brothers Kanth from which he pledged the cathedral chapter.

Already for the year 1413 Konrad VI. " Dean " is as Breslauer canons and scholastics of Glogau. A year later he was appointed Bishop of Breslau to Wenceslas Cathedral Dean of the Cathedral Chapter. After the partition of 1416 took place inherited his father's estate to him and his youngest brother Konrad VIII " the boy " († 1444/47 ) was probably assigned to the area of Steinau, about which, however, could not freely dispose.

Konrad VI. " Dean ", who was not married and no children left behind, died in 1427. His body was buried in the monastery church of Leubus.
