Köyliö

Köyliö (Swedish Kjulo ) is a municipality with 2750 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in south-western Finland. It is located approximately 200 km northwest of the capital, Helsinki, in the landscape Satakunta. Köyliö is exclusively Finnish speakers.

The capital of the province lies to the west of the lake Köyliönjärvi. According to legend, the farmer Lalli killed about 1165 on the frozen lake the Holy Henry of Uppsala, the first bishop of Finland and later patron saint of the country, with an ax. The miter Heinrichs and Lallis ax bears today the municipal coat of arms, in the community center, a statue was erected Lallis. On the island Kirkkokari in the north of the lake, in this murder to have taken place, the first church in the village was built, which was in use until the 15th century. Today, the island is the only shrine of the Roman Catholic Church in Finland.

The municipality Köyliö exists since 1870 and next to the main town includes the villages Köyliö Ehtamo, Hankaankorpi, Huhti, Järvenpää, Kankaanpää, Karhia, Kepola, Köyliönsaari, Lähteenkylä, Pajula, Pehula, Puolimatka, Tuiskula, Tuohiniemi, Uusimaa, Vellinkylä, Vinnari, Voitoinen, Vuorenmaa and Yttilä.
