Kraków Society of Friends of Fine Arts

The Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow (also: Society of Friends of Fine Arts; poln: Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Sztuk Pieknych in Krakow, short TPSP ) is a Krakauer organization of artists and art lovers, in 1854 as the first organization of its kind in Poland ground was established.

History

On the initiative of the property owner Mikołaj Valery Wielogłowski the founding of the Company was held on January 21, 1854 in the premises of the School of Technology at ul. Gołębia instead of 22. Władysław Sanguszko was as president, Henryk Wodzicki as his deputy and Valery Wielogłowski as Secretary General / CEO (Polish: Sekretarz ) determined. As part of the exhibition activities of the TPSP debut exhibitions were given by later such figures as Jan Matejko, Julian Fałat, Włodzimierz Tetmajer, Stanisław Wyspiański, Józef Mehoffer or Jacek Malczewski. The activities of the TSPS promoted in the last quarter of the 19th century the Krakow artistic life considerably. In collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow scholarships and awards for their graduates were awarded. 1894 Fund was established, received loans through the needy artists. The fund was financed by a 5% surcharge on exhibition sales. Also, historic preservation measures were supported. So 1864 100 gold florins for the restoration of the Krakow altar by Veit Stoss was provided. The TPSP also participated in exhibitions abroad, such as in Vienna (1872/1873) and Berlin (1891 ).

In the 20th century, the society represented increasingly conservative views, modern art forms were not accepted. Especially the Formists and Colorists criticized the exhibition and promotion policy of TPSP.

The company was a model and sometimes supporters in the creation of similar organizations in Poznan ( Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Sztuk Pieknych w Poznaniu ), Lviv, founded in 1860, or Towarzystwo Zachęty Sztuk Pieknych ( Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts) in Warsaw.

In the course of its existence, the Company had different seats. Among other she held offices and partially exhibit space in Larisch Palace, in front of the Bishop's Palace and the Cloth Hall. Since 1901, she had a building of its own, called " Palace of Art ", on Plac Szczepańskim 4 After the Second World War, an object came in Nowa Huta district ( Aleja Róż ) as the manor house Matejkos it. Membership
