Krzeszowice

Krzeszowice ( German Kressendorf ) is a town in Poland, in Lesser Poland Province. It is the seat of city and rural community in the powiat Krakowski.

Geography

Geographical Location

Krzeszowice is located in south-eastern Poland, approximately 25 kilometers northwest of the city center of Krakow ( Cracow ). The border with Slovakia runs 60 kilometers south.

History

The first written mention of a settlement on the site of the present Krzeszowice took place in 1286 with the award of Magdeburg city rights to the village Cressouicy. 1555 was the place owned by Stanisław Tęczyński. 1625 was the first written mention of the use of sulfate-containing water to the healing of cattle in the history of the parish. Opened in 1778 on the basis of the source of sulphurous water August Czartoryski a bath. 1832 to 1844 a church was built in neo-Gothic church. The connection to the rail network to Krakow took place in 1847. 1850 bis 1855 Palace was built in the style of the Italian Renaissance. The palace belongs to an English landscape garden with an area of twelve hectares. In 1924 the City small town law (status miasteczka ). Four years later, the place was appointed resort and October 18, 1933 Krzeszowice received city rights. In September 1939, the city was captured during the Polish campaign of the German Wehrmacht and part of the General Government for the occupied Polish territories. 1940, the palace was restored by the Germans, and then rebuilt. Kressendorf house as a private residence of the Governor General Hans Frank 1945 ended the occupation of the Germans and the city as has been part of Poland from 1918 to 1939.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Through the town runs from west to east, the country road 79 ( droga Krajowa 79). To the east, it leads after about 17 km to Krakow, where it extends together with the national road 7 To the west it extends 15 km away by Chrzanów. About five kilometers south of Krzeszowice runs Highway 4, the next driveway is found at Rudno six kilometers away.

The place is connected to the rail network of PKP. There are, among others, direct to Krakow and Chrzanów.

The nearest international airport is about 14 kilometers south-east airport John Paul II Kraków-Balice.
