Kučín, Vranov nad Topľou District

Kucin (Hungarian Alsóköcsény - to 1902 Kucsin ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia.

Geography

The community Kucin on the left bank of the river Ondava which forms a nearly ten kilometer wide new valley and thus a northwestern bulge of the East Slovak Lowland along with their tributary Topľa. Just east of the municipality is the boundary to the Košice Region ( Košice ). The cities Vranov nad Topľou and Strazske are nine kilometers from Kucin.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1335.

Economy and infrastructure

Spreads on the opposite side of the Kucin Ondava to 2.5 km ² industrial area of. Here is the location of the company Bukóza Holding, as, a wood processing plant producing cellulose in addition to various sawn goods and a power plant operates.

Through the community Kucin leads in a north-south direction, the highway 554 ( Havaj - Oborín ). In the neighboring village of Nižný Hrabovec is connected to the national road 18 from Prešov after Michalovce and the parallel railway line.

Statistics

The population Kučíns is 86 % of Slovaks, 13 % are Roma ( figures from 2001 ). 84 % of the population are Roman Catholics, 6 % said they reformed as a confession and 5% Greek Catholic on.
