Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong

Kwame Nkrumah Acheampong, ( born December 19, 1974 in Glasgow, Scotland) is the first professional Ghanaian skier. His nickname is "Snow Leopard".

Nkrumah - Acheampong worked in an indoor ski slope in Milton Keynes and got as an employee free ski lessons. When he began to pursue the professional skiing, he gave up this profession. Sponsorship enabled him to winter training in France. Nkrumah - Acheampong began in 2005 to participate in FIS races, also denied four races in the South American Cup, and was launched in 2007 in the giant slalom World Cup in Åre. Due to its high FIS points he had to compete in the inaugural qualifying race in which he with a gap of 1 minute and 17 seconds behind the winner ( and 35 seconds behind second-bottom ) crossed the finish line only the last one of the 66 evaluated qualifiers, and thus participate in the actual World Cup race clearly missed. After further starts at FIS races he took part in the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere. He also had time in the qualification and failed as a Third to last in the giant slalom and the slalom Last ( but this time even with smaller residues ) again to qualify for a main event.

For FIS races Nkrumah Acheampong garnered the necessary points in order to participate at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver on slalom and giant slalom competition. He was the first Ghanaian, who qualified for the Olympic Winter Games. In the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort, he scored in the slalom with a gap of 43 seconds on the winner Giuliano Razzoli as Penultimate 47th. In the Olympic giant slalom, he did not present himself. 2011 saw the launch Nkrumah Acheampong at the World Championships in Garmisch -Partenkirchen again in slalom and giant slalom. In the slalom qualifier, he finished as the third- Last the 68th Place and in the giant slalom qualification as Fourth last the 96th rank. For a real championship racing he could once again not qualify.
