FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009

The 40th Alpine Ski World was held until February 15, 2009 in Val d'Isere from February 2. The winter sports in Savoie was awarded at the 44th FIS Congress in Miami on June 3, 2004. Thus France was after 1937, 1962 ( each in Chamonix ) and 1968 ( as part of the Winter Olympics in Grenoble) for the fourth time host of the Alpine World Ski Championships.

All the men's race as well as the technical women's race (Giant Slalom, Slalom ) were held on the spectacular route Bellevarde that applied at the Olympic Winter Games in 1992, was, however, since no longer used for major international ski competitions. Scene of downhill, super -G and combination of the ladies was the new, also very demanding slopes Solaise Rhône -Alpes.

June 30, 2007 Jean -Claude Killy resigned as president of the organizing committee. The triple Olympic champion protested thus against the lack of support of the policy and the slow progress in the construction of a new media center and the slopes. The line then took over Marc Bauer, Mayor of Val d'Isere.

Program

The World Cup began not as initially planned for January 30: The schedule has been streamlined, the eleven planned competitions thus extend over a period of only 13 days. In addition, the team competition was not on the last day, but before the technical competitions take place as in 2007 and 2005, but had to be removed from the program without replacement due to bad weather.

As with the 2007 World Cup there was for the Giant Slalom and Slalom due to the very large number of participants on the day before the qualifying race. In addition to 50 drivers set to have 25 more each categorized.

For the first time were allowed to start in the technical disciplines, only the top 30 runners of the first pass in the second run, as this is handled in the World Cup.
