Davide Simoncelli

Davide Simoncelli (born 30 January 1979 Lizzana ) is an Italian alpine skier. In the World Cup he drives since 2007 exclusively giant slalom race, before that he had participated in slalom and super outfits sporadically. He won two World Cup races so far and twice reached the fourth place in the Giant Slalom World Cup.

Biography

For the first time denied Davide Simoncelli in the 2000 /01 season an alpine World Cup races, but a year later he was able to classify in the top 30 and collect some World Cup points. He had his breakthrough in the 2003/04 season, when he was in the giant slalom World Cup rankings finished fifth final ranking thanks to good performances on a regular basis. In his world championship debut in St. Anton 2001 Simoncelli took 20th place in the giant slalom and rank 23 in the slalom. 2003 and 2005 he started only in the giant slalom, but different from both times.

On 21 December 2003, Simoncelli won his first World Cup race, the giant slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia, a week after a second place on the same route. A year earlier he had become second in Alta Badia. After that, a phase with weaker performances followed, but in December 2005 he was again second in a giant slalom race - again on his favorite track in Alta Badia. In March 2006, he reached his second World Cup victory then, which he achieved fourth place in the Giant Slalom World Cup in the 2005/06 season. At the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 but he left in the first giant slalom run.

Over the next three years, his results deteriorated again. The 2006/07 season he had an injury in January finish in World Cup races he drove only rarely in the top 10 in the Giant Slalom World Cup he was no longer in the top ten and in the 2008/ 09 season also no longer in the top 20 to find. At the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isère, he nevertheless scored eleventh place in the giant slalom. In the winter of 2009/10, Simoncelli was able to increase significantly again. He achieved two second places in Alta Badia and Garmisch -Partenkirchen and was like four years earlier fourth in the Giant Slalom World Cup. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, he could not reach his good World Cup season results and was only 19th in the giant slalom.

In the 2010/11 season was a seventh place in the giant slalom in Val d'Isere his best World Cup result. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he was ranked 20th at the end of the season Simoncelli suffered at the Italian Championships injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee. In the next World Cup Winter 2011/ 12, Simoncelli improved over the previous year. He scored a best result a fifth place in Kranjska Gora and was tenth in the giant slalom World Cup. On June 24, 2012 Simoncelli suffered during a glacier training a severe abdominal injury, which he had to interrupt the summer training for about three months.
