Kyriakos Ioannou

Kyriakos Ioannou (Greek Κυριάκος Ιωάννου, born July 26, 1984 in Limassol) is a Cypriot high jumper. He won silver at the 2009 World Championships, and bronze at the World Championships in 2007.

According to a sixth place finish at the European Junior Championships in 2003 and a fourth place finish at the U23 European Championships 2005, Ioannou could qualify for a major finals in the senior category at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki for the first time, with 2.25 m, he finished tenth. In March 2006 he joined the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne; with 2.23 meters, he won bronze behind the Canadian Mark Boswell and the Englishman Martyn Bernard. In August 2007, Ioannou won the silver medal at the Universiade in Bangkok, with 2.26 m he was beaten only the Russians Alexander Shustov. 14 days later at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka crossed three Springer 2.35 m. After the more experimental control of the Bahamian Donald Thomas won ahead of Russia's Yaroslav Rybakov. Ioannou won with a new Cypriot national record the first medal for a Cypriots at World Athletics Championships. Another bronze medal won Ioannou at the World Indoor Championships 2008 in Valencia, together with the Americans Andra Manson he was only 2.30 m behind Stefan Holm and Yaroslav Rybakov.
