La Balme-de-Thuy

La Balme -de- Thuy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

La Balme -de- Thuy is on 620 m above sea level. M., west of Thones, about 12 km east of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village stretches along the northern edge of the Talniederung of Fier, in the Bornes Alps at the foot of the striking rock summit of Tête à Tête Ronde and Turpin.

The area of ​​17.79 km ² municipal area, which extends as a narrow strip in southwest-northeast direction, comprising a portion of the Bornes Alps. The area is traversed in a deeply incised in the chains of Bornes Alps valley from east to west from Fier, the flat valley floor is almost a kilometer wide and filled by gravel deposits of the river. History

Excavations have revealed that the area of La Balme -de- Thuy was already settled in the cave of La Vieille -Eglise in the period from about 8000 BC. Its name is attributed to the late Latin balma ( cave, cave, Abri ).

Attractions

The Village Church of La Balme -de- Thuy dates from the 19th century. On the high plateau north of the village is the chapel of Notre -Dame -des- Neiges, which was rebuilt in 1949. Another chapel there in the hamlet Charvex. Of the secular buildings, the castle is to say, which was rebuilt in 1803.

Population
