Alex (Haute-Savoie)

Alex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Alex is at 592 m above sea level. M., approximately 9 km east of the town of Annecy (air line). This former farm extends in a basin of Fier on the southern edge of the Talniederung both sides of the village Bach Nant d' Alex, in the Bornes Alps at the foot of the Dent du Cruet.

The area of ​​17.02 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bornes Alps. The northern boundary runs along the Fier as it flows from east to west by a valley and then breaks the chain of edge - Bornes Alps in deep Klus Défilé de Dingy. Attractions

The parish church of Alex was built in the Gothic Revival style, and subjected to the early 1990s, a comprehensive restoration. The castle dates from the 13th century. It belonged to the lords of Les Clefs and from 1383 to the noble family Arenthon who held it until a few years before the French Revolution. Today, the castle houses a Foundation for Contemporary Art.

Population

With 993 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Alex is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region.
