Charvonnex

Charvonnex is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Charvonnex is located on 570 m above sea level. M., about 9 km north of the town of Annecy (air line). This former farm extends in the foothills of the Alps, on a terrace on the western flank of the Filière, below the height of Mont -Saint- Martin, in Genevois.

The area of ​​4.71 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The eastern boundary runs along the Filière, a right tributary of the Fier. The Filière flows with several turns parallel to the edge of the Alps from north to south in an open valley. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the terrace of Charvonnex up on the adjacent height at 741 m above sea level. M. is reached the highest point of the municipality.

History

Is first mentioned Charvonnex already in 1031 under the name Calvonacum. The place name probably goes back to the Gallo-Roman family names Calvus and means something like estate of Calvus. By 1860 the town was officially Charvonnex -en- Genevois.

The village church of Charvonnex was built in 1845 on the site of an earlier temple and 1895 increased.

Population

With 1175 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Charvonnex one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Charvonnex counted 471 inhabitants). Since the early 1970s, however, was due to the attractive residential location and close to Annecy again noted a significant increase in population.
