Menthon-Saint-Bernard

Menthon -Saint -Bernard is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Menthon -Saint- Bernard is located at 482 m above sea level. M., about 7 km southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The village is located on an alluvial plain on the eastern shores of Lake Annecy, nestled between the heights of Mont Baret in the north, the Dents de Lanfon the east and the Roc de Chère in the south.

History

The territory of Menthon -Saint -Bernard was inhabited in pre-Christian times. Even during the Roman times it was inhabited; were found and excavated remains extensive spa. The place name is composed of the Celtic words men (stone, rock) and dunums (fortress) together and thus means something like fortress on the rock.
