La Châtelaine

La Châtelaine is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Chatelaine is located on 570 m above sea level. M., south east of Arbois and about 30 km northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in a clearing in the northern part of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), east of the Erosionstals Val de la Cuisance above the Reculée of Planches.

The area of ​​13.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. Almost the entire area occupied by the plateau of the plateau Caledonia, the average at 560 m above sea level. History

The municipality of La Châtelaine was already inhabited in prehistoric times. The medieval castle is first mentioned in the 11th century. It was restored in the 14th century and in 1480 by troops of King Louis XI. destroyed. Together with the Franche-Comté reached La Châtelaine with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The Village Church of La Châtelaine was built in the 17th century, and added the bell tower in the 19th century. Population
