Molain (Jura)

Molain is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Molain is located at 580 m above sea level. M., east of Poligny and about 25 km northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in a wide clearing in the northern part of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), between the erosion valley of Culée de Vaux in the west and the ridge of the Côte de l' Today in the East.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Molain was already inhabited during the Gallo- Roman period. The Church of Molain is first mentioned in the 11th century. In the Middle Ages Molain formed their own small estates that were from the Priory of Vaux- sur- Poligny dependent. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population
