Barretaine

Barretaine is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Barretaine is located at 550 m above sea level. M., above Poligny, about 20 km northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the western part of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), a scenic location high above the plains of the Saone.

The area of ​​9.23 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the level of the plateau Caledonia, the average at 550 m above sea level. History

The territory of Barretaine was probably inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. Remains of a Roman road have been preserved. In the Middle Ages Barretaine formed its own little rule. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To territorial changes occurred in the early 19th century: in 1806 and 1821 Le Ressard Champvaux was incorporated into Barretaine. Both towns were previously independent communities.

Population

With 192 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Barretaine one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 364 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.
