La Côte, Haute-Saône

La Côte is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Cote is located at an altitude of 315 m above sea level, 6 km east of Lure and about 22 km west of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the eastern part of the department in the eastern part of the plain of Lure, in the lowlands on both sides of Rahin, on the southwestern edge of the Vosges.

The area of ​​6.93 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Lure. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by Rahin flowing through an alluvial plain and provides drainage to Ognon. The valley is on average 315 m and has a width of approximately one kilometer. Outside the settlement area, the lowland is used for agriculture. Short side streams of Rahin were dammed for the purpose of fish farming.

Flanked the lowlands of Rahin on the north side of the forest area Le Fays ( to 357 m ), the subsoil consists of Pleistocene gravel deposits. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends into the Grove La Noye Jeannin. On a wooded hill in the far east is 362 m reaches the highest point of La Côte. Here occurs sandstone revealed the lower Triassic.

History

Is first mentioned La Côte in 1187 under the name Costa, 1273 as La Coste. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. La Cote was part of the territory of Faucogney. It formed its own government, which initially, later the Lords of Grammont belonged to the Barons of Ronchamp. In 1341 the town was burned by troops in the service of the Duke of Burgundy. Together with the Franche -Comté reached La Côte with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. With the opening of the railway line from Belfort via Lure to Vesoul the place was tied mid-19th century to the French railway network. Today, La Côte is a member of the comprehensive 22 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure.

Attractions

The single-nave church of Saint -Hippolyte was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style and has a monumental main altar. Also from the 19th century comes the stone bridge that spans the Rahin.

Population

With 524 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Côte is one of the medium-sized towns in the Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range 440-550 people.

Economy and infrastructure

La Cote was early on a predominantly coined by commercial and industrial village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises. Among the major employers include Knauf Fiber ( gypsum board factory, which emerged from a former gypsum factory ), which since 1995 based Tissage de la Côte ( modern textile factory) and VALMETAL (metalworking). There are also other establishments in the wood and plastic processing and shops for the daily needs. The forestry still plays an important role.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road N19, which runs from Lure to Belfort. Further road links exist with Malbouhans, Magny- Danigon and Palante. The municipality is of the railway line Belfort - crosses Vesoul; the nearest railway station is in Lure.
