La Motte-Servolex

La Motte- Servolex is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes. It is the capital of the Canton of La Motte- Servolex in the arrondissement of Chambery.

Geography

La Motte- Servolex is located at 264 m above sea level. M., about 5 km north- west of the town of Chambery (air line). The city extends to the northwest of the department of Savoie, in the foothills south of the Lac du Bourget, in the broad valley floor from Chambery, on the eastern foot of the Chaîne de l' Epine.

The area of ​​29.85 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of Chambery. The eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the broad Talfurche of Chambéry, which establishes the connection between the Lac du Bourget and the Grésivaudan. In the area of La Motte- Servolex the sink has a 2 km wide flat valley floor, which is drained by the Leysse north to the Lac du Bourget. The formerly marshy valley floor is now largely drained. From the valley floor, the municipality's area extends westward across the slowly rising slope of La Motte, which is divided by the valleys from different streams of Leysse. This is followed by the densely wooded steep slopes of the Chaîne de l' Epine connects. The western border is the wide peak of the Montagne de l' Epine ( 1040 m above sea level. M. ), the north of the pass traversal Col de l' Epine ( 987 m above sea level. M. ) to the ridge of the Mont du Chat increases.   • Le Noiray (360 m above sea level. M. ) in a valley at the foot of the Mont du Chat
  • Barbiset (460 m above sea level. M. ) on a terrace at the foot of the Mont du Chat
  • Beauvoir (270 m above sea level. M. ) on the western edge of the valley of Chambery
  • Le Tremblay (290 m above sea level. M. ) on the west slope of the valley of Chambery

Neighboring communities of La Motte- Servolex are Le Bourget -du -Lac in the north, Voglans, Chambéry and Cognin in the east, Saint- Sulpice in the south and Nance, Marcieux and Verthemex in the West.

History

Servolex appears around the year 1100 for the first time in the records under the name Cervollay. La Motte also is mentioned in the Middle Ages. This name comes from the old French word mothe from which designates a fortified hill. Both villages were in possession of dominion Montfort, why called La Motte long time, La Motte -Montfort. On the hill of La Motte, the Church were, a priory (1925 aborted) and the castle. In 1794, merged the two previously independent municipalities on the new double municipality of La Motte- Servolex, the present name was officially introduced until 1807. In the early 1990s, the village of La Motte has been redesigned.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint -Jean -Baptiste in La Motte came originally from a Gothic building, but was remodeled in the early 19th century. In Le Tremblay is a neo-Gothic church, which was built from 1854 to 1857. The municipal area there are several palaces and places of residence. Worth mentioning the Castle of Ronjoux, the castle of Pingon are (1515 built ) and the Château Reinach, built in the late 18th century and altered in the 19th century. It stands in a large park and is home today ( along with new buildings), the Lycée Agricole ( agricultural vocational school). The old Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall ) was built in 1855-1858. As part of the redesign of the village it was in 1992 enlarged by a modern building with a tower and glass facade.

Population

With 11,317 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Motte- Servolex one of the largest municipalities in the department of Savoie. After the population in the first half of the 20th century was slow but continuous rise, a striking increase in population was recorded since mid-century. Since then, the population has increased nearly fivefold. Particularly high growth rates were registered during the 1970s. Today, La Motte- Servolex is the most populous suburb of Chambery. It is completely grown together with the neighboring communities of Chambéry and Cognin.

Economy and infrastructure

La Motte- Servolex was until well into the 20th century a dominantly agricultural village. Even today, the fruit-growing and viticulture play a certain role. It was not until about 1950 began a rapid development for residential suburb of Chambery. Since then, situated in the valley in the range of Erier - Bissy developed on the outskirts of Chambéry a large industrial and commercial zone in which a total of about 450 factories of various industries have established. Among the important sectors include the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, mechanical industry and food processing. In addition, there are numerous other companies of small to medium size service companies, shops and trading companies.

The village region has a very well developed. La Motte- Servolex is located on the secondary road D14, which runs from Chambery to Le Bourget -du -Lac. Other regional road links exist with Saint- Sulpice and the Col de l' Epine. The nearest links to the motorways A41 and A43, which traverse the municipality, is located at a distance of about 3 km. By several bus lines La Motte- Servolex is connected to Chambery. Thus, the main railway station Chambery on the railway line from Annecy to Grenoble is easily accessible.
