Lagan, Sweden

Lagan is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Blekinge County, the historical province of Småland. The village in the municipality of Ljungby is located about ten kilometers north of Ljungby on the eponymous river, near the European route 4

History

Originally Lagan from the settlements Aby, Prästtorp and Alt Aby, who had settled at a textile factory. The town continued to develop after even came to the railroad and the power plant on the River Lagan. The Church of Lagan is called " Berga Kyrka ". It lies just north of Aby and is the central church of the parish of Berga. In 1279 Bishop Henry received ( Bishop of Linköping ) by King Magnus Ladulås the privilege to build a city in Berga. This document is the oldest surviving " Stadsprivilegbrev " in Sweden. The town rights were never revoked, but the city never built, as Bishop Henry died a few years after the granting of city status.

Economy

Lagan has some industrial areas, of which the largest in the western part of the town is just off the E4. Lagan provides approximately 1970 jobs, mainly in manufacturing and production.
