Ljungby Municipality

Ljungby is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Blekinge County, the historical province of Småland. The main town of the municipality is Ljungby.

It is one of the largest Swedish municipalities south of the capital Stockholm and includes part of southern Sweden with unspoilt nature and sparsely populated countryside. The municipality of Ljungby also includes large parts of the lakes Bolmen and Möckeln.

History

The reform of the local structure in 1952, seven municipalities were to Ljungby. These were: Annerstad ( from four parishes ), Berga ( three parishes ), Forsheda ( from six parishes ), Hamneda ( three parishes ), Lidhult ( from three parishes, including the establishment in 1922, local structure Lidhult ) Ryssby ( from three parishes ) and Unnaryd ( three parishes ). The town Ljungby was not there in this reform.

In 1971, the Municipality Ljungby was formed. It consisted of the merging of Annerstad, Berga, Hamneda and Ryssby. The old municipalities Forsheda, Lidhult and Unnaryd were divided and added to the part of the Municipality Ljungby.

By Ljungby municipality led formerly the National Highway 1 (RV1 ), which became the E 4 later. You can find parts of the former route today in the community. These sections are marked and are now called Riksettan. In Hallsjö is going back to the medieval church ruins of Hallsjö and south of this, the burial grounds of Hallsjö.

Coat of arms

Construction: A green field on which a golden wavy bar is located, and the field is divided in the middle. In the upper part are three hammer to see standing on the style. In the lower part there is a caduceus, all in gold. When the town Ljungby got city rights in 1936, was allowed to develop this coat of arms with the responsible state agency ( Riksheraldikerämbetet ). The picture is evidence of the river Lagan and on crafts and trade. After the formation of the coat of arms municipalities continued to be used unchanged, disappeared the coat of arms of Berga and Bolmsö. The coat of arms is registered for the community since 1974 with the National Patent and Registration Office ( PRV ).

In addition to the main town Ljungby is available in the community seven other Tätorte: Agunnaryd, Angelstad, Kanna, Lagan, Lidhult, Ryssby and Vittaryd.

Personalities

The bassist for the thrash metal band Metallica, Cliff Burton died on September 27, 1986 on a trip from a concert in Stockholm to Copenhagen in an accident on the National Highway at Dörarp in the municipality of Ljungby. Near the accident site a memorial stone to his death.
