Lahti Symphony Orchestra

The Sinfonia Lahti is a Finnish orchestra.

The orchestra goes back to an establishment of the Friends of Music Society Lahti from 1910, and was founded in 1949 in its current form under the administration of the municipality Lahti. Main venue of the orchestra is the 2000 inaugurated Sibelius Hall in Lahti.

Osmo Vänskä in 1985, Principal Guest Conductor of the Sinfonia Lahti, and following in the footsteps of Ulf Soderblom 1988 chief conductor. Under his leadership, the orchestra has become one of the most prestigious orchestras in Scandinavia. Among other international awards, the Sinfonia Lahti received under the baton Vänskä 1991 and 1996 Gramophone Award for his recording of the original versions of Sibelius ' Violin Concerto and his Symphony No. 5. In addition to weekly concerts in Lahti, the orchestra performs regularly in Helsinki and has performed internationally. For the label BIS Records created regular CDs. Kalevi Aho in 1992 was appointed Composer in Residence, the orchestra has recorded many of his works. The orchestra has also initiated a musical program for children and adolescents.

Vänskä put 2008 down from his position as chief conductor and was appointed Honorary Conductor. Since then, Jukka -Pekka Saraste serves as Artistic Advisor of the orchestra. Okko Kamu 2011 to take over the baton boss.
