The Lake Highway is a road in the center of the Australian state of Tasmania, which runs from Melton Mowbray about Bothwell, past the Great Lake, according to Deloraine. Since 2001 is the official name of Highland Lakes Road.

Course

The Lake Highway branches in Melton Mowbray from the south of the island from the Midland Highway and leads 146 km north to Deloraine. Bothwell is the largest town on the highway. He is the only major road in Tasmania, which is not paved. This highway is one of the least traveled highways in Tasmania, except in the summer months when it is used by tourists who want to the Great Lake. The section on the Great Lake along with its surroundings on the central plateau lies at 1000 m on average. In the winter months, this section is sometimes snowed in and locked.

Two major roads branch from Lake Highway from: Westward the Marlborough Highway ( B11), which represents the connection to the Lyell Highway, and to the east the Poatina Road ( B51), leaving the Lake Highway north of the Steppes, and steep switchbacks the Great Western Tiers down to Poatina, the former working class neighborhood for the construction of dams and power plants leads.
