Lancelot Stephen Bosanquet

Lancelot Stephen Bosanquet ( born December 26, 1903 in St. Stephen's by- Saltash, Cornwall, † January 10, 1984 in Cambridge ) was a British mathematician.

Bosanquet was the son of a clergyman. He studied at Oxford University ( Balliol College), where he received his doctorate in 1929 at Godfrey Harold Hardy ( D. Phil ). In 1935, he received a D. Sc. In 1929 he was a lecturer at University College London in 1936 and 1966 Reader professor. In 1971 he retired and moved to Cambridge.

1964/65 he was at the University of Utah and 1969 /70 the University of Western Ontario.

As a mathematician, he worked on series summations, eg divergent series, convergence and summability of Dirichlet series and Fourier series and integrals, such as the Laplace - Stieltjes Integral and Tauber records Konvexitätssätzen, averaging sets and inequalities.

1947 to 1951 he was secretary of the London Mathematical Society from 1950 to 1954 and its Vice President. 1951 to 1955 he was editor of the Journal of the London Mathematical Society.

He was co-editor of the collected works of Hardy.

Among his doctoral students include David Borwein, Claude Rogers, Cyril Offord and Mohammed Mehdi.
