History

The track was completed on October 15, 1875 between Plattling and Pilsting and on May 15, 1880 between Landshut and Pilsting and should connect as the southern part of the Bavarian Forest railway Munich Prague. Due to the unfavorable track alignment through the mountains of Šumava it never came to a major cross -border traffic on this line. This was and still is to this day over Regensburg and the railway line Schwandorf - Furth im Wald.

Even with the construction of the line from Landshut to Pilsting the section Pilsting -Landau ( Isar ) was expanded to double track. This second track was dismantled in 1942 due to the war and transferred to the occupied territories.

The electric company was incorporated May 25, 1976, to avoid the time-consuming and costly change of locomotives for the through trains Munich -Landshut - Passau Platt Ling- Ling in Landshut and Platt. To this was added for 13 million marks ( 6.6 million euros ) equipped 83 km route with catenary, built three bridges new, one torn down and erected in 1035 catenary.

Operation

On the route there are 35 level crossings in the section Landshut -Landau ( Isar ).

Traffic

On this route currently operates exclusively in passenger der Donau -Isar Express, a regional express line connecting predominantly hourly Munich, Landshut, Plattling and Passau. This was awarded by tender to the DB Regio. As cars multiple units of the 440 series are used. Regional paths of the route between Munich - Plattling not currently operate. The breakpoint Otzing was closed with commissioning of the Danube River Isar - Express. In addition, many still operate freight trains full of Dingolfing ( BMW factory ) via Landshut to Munich and Regensburg.

Future of passenger transport

In order to long term can serve all stations every hour, an extension of the line for higher speeds and a longer two-way encounter section between Worth and Dingolfing is necessary.

Expansion measures

Prior to commissioning of the Danube River Isar - Express, the portion of Dingolfing-Landau should be modernized and accelerated, and the residence time can be reduced at train crossings through a new platform in Dingolfing on track 1 and an electronic interlocking. A completion of these measures is provided by the current state only in 2013.
