Larry Rosen (producer)

Larry Rosen ( born May 25, 1940 in New York City ) is an American jazz producer and media entrepreneur.

Life and work

Rosen began his career as a musician; First he played drums in the Newport Youth Band; During his studies at the Manhattan School of Music, he met Dave Grusin, with whom he first accompanied the singer Andy Williams. 1972 produced Grusin and he singer Jon Lucien for the RCA. After further productions, including Earl Klugh with, Patti Austin and Lee Ritenour and a joint venture with Arista Records in 1982, they founded their own label, GRP Records, for the roses as a sound engineer and producer worked. He was responsible for more than 350 albums, 80 of which were nominated for a Grammy, and 33 received a Grammy, as well as other awards. Rosen was a pioneer of digital recording technology ( he took the first digital music beyond the classical genres ). His production company, Jazz Roots produces educational programs; also he is the host of the NPR radio show of the same name. His Larry Rosen Productions have multiple HD television series such as Legends of Jazz produced for American television, with figures such as Ramsey Lewis, Quincy Jones and Phil Ramone.

In 1996 he co-founded N2K, one of the first companies to not only the websites for musicians as Leonard Bernstein, Miles Davis, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones operates, but also sold music over the Internet and downloads the 1999 CD Now merged.

Prizes and awards

Rosen has been recognized by Ernst & Young in the field of new media as " Entrepreneur of the Year ". Forbes magazine praised him as " internet icon " in a story about the men of the new universe. He was awarded the Govenor 's Award of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences and A & R / Producers Honor Roll included.
