László Kovács (cinematographer)

László Kovács [ la ː slo ː kova ː ʧ ] ( born May 14, 1933, Cece, Hungary, † July 22, 2007 in Beverly Hills, California ) was a Hungarian cinematographer.

Life

László Kovács studied 1952-1956 at the Budapest theater and film school ( Színház - és Filmművészeti Főiskola ), among others, with György Illés. After he had held the unrest there in the wake of the 1956 uprising with the camera, he fled with the material via Austria to the United States, where he received political asylum in 1957.

Before his breakthrough with Easy Rider in 1969, he worked as a cameraman for several television productions and low budget films, sometimes under the name Leslie Kovacs.

Kovács also worked as a photographer and as a director directed three films.
