Látky

Látky (Hungarian Latka ) is a town in central Slovakia with 581 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), the Region in Okres Detva, part of Banskobystrický lies.

Geography

The municipality is located in the mountains Veporské Hills, part of the Slovak Ore Mountains. The height of the 45.7 km ² municipal area varies from 700 m nm N.M. to 1100 m (highest mountain Bykovo 1111 m N.M. ). Due to the location created in the community several streams that flow into the rivers Ipeľ and Slatina. The center is located at an altitude of 830 m nm and is nine kilometers from Hriňová as well as 22 kilometers from Detva.

Administratively, the town is officially divided into six parts of communes: Čechánky, Látky, Mlaky, Novy Svet, Paseky and Polianky.

History

Today's church was built in 1953 by spinning off the settlements Bykovo, Čechánky, Malíkov, Mlaky, Novy Svet, Paseky Petrová, Podbýkovo, Polianky, Sekcia, Táňovo, Vrch Ipeľ and Vyhnanec from the community Málinec.

The place Látky originated in the early 18th century, when the powerful Hungarian Gender Zichy population invited from the Kysuca, area of Bytča and from the Orava to colonize the densely forested area and work as a lumberjack. The year of the first written mention is given depending on the source as 1715 or 1734. 1820 a glassworks was established in 1895 but ceased operations due to lack of skilled workers.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Látky 577 inhabitants, of whom 548 Slovaks and Magyars 1. 28 inhabitants did not know. 485 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, 3 neighbors to the Church of Seventh- day Adventists, 2 neighbors to the Protestant Church, one population to the Greek Catholic Church as well as 4 other denomination. 18 residents were non-denominational and 64 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
