Laura Karpman

Laura Anne Karpman ( born March 1, 1959 in La Jolla, San Diego, California) is an American composer and university teacher at the University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA).

Life

Laura Karpman Anne was born as the daughter of Harold and Lew Rodelle, born Grisor, Karpman in La Jolla, a suburb of San Diego. Since it has already been promoted musically very early, she began at the age of seven years with composing his own songs at. In addition to her school, she attended Phillips Academy in Andover and the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. After she received her bachelor's degree in music with magna cum laude in 1980 at the University of Michigan, she graduated in 1983 with a Master's degree from the Juilliard School, where she also holds a doctorate in music in 1985.

After working for over a decade in New York, she moved to the invitation of the Sundance Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles, where she was admitted, among others, David Newman, Dave Grusin and Shirley Walker in film composition. Since its first independent film composition at the television drama My Brother's Wife in 1989, it was mainly for television, was hired for the Karpman. Since then, she composed the music for the produced by Steven Spielberg series Taken, she became increasingly also for music composition in video games such as EverQuest II and Field Commander engaged.

Besides her solo work Karpman taught for her doctorate at several U.S. universities, including the Lincoln Center Institute (1985 to 1987), Rutgers University (1987 to 1988) and Whittier College (1989 to 1990). Since 2005 she is a lecturer at UCLA.
