Laura Theresa Alma-Tadema

Lady Laura Theresa Alma- Tadema (* 1852 in London when Laura Theresa Epps; † August 15, 1909 ibid ) was a British painter and illustrator. Today largely forgotten - was Lady Alma -Tadema in her time one of the leading painters of the English Salon painting.

Life

Laura Theresa Epps was a daughter of the British physician Dr. George Napoleon Epps - her two older sisters, Emily and Ellen Epps, were also famous painters. Through the Pre-Raphaelite Ford Madox Brown in 1869, she met the Dutch painter and draftsman Sir Lawrence Alma -Tadema know. Two years later, Laura Theresa Epps was his student, whom she married in the same year.

Since 1873, Lady Alma- Tadema exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, 1878 followed by the participation in the International Exhibition in Paris. Also on German exhibitions the British artist was represented regularly since 1881. In addition to the fine arts, they also devoted himself to commercial art and worked as an illustrator for The English Illustrated Magazine.
