Le Barcarès

Le Barcarès (in Catalan El Barcarès ) is a commune with 4108 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Orientales of the Languedoc -Roussillon region. The municipality is located on the French Mediterranean coast. In the south, the municipality bordering on the aglycon, in the north and the east by the Etang de Leucate or by the community Leucate.

Fishing and tourism ( seaside tourism on the beaches of the Mediterranean, windsurfing and water skiing on the Etang de Leucate ) are the main sources of income of the municipality Le Barcarès.

Tourism and Customs

Tourism plays an important role especially in the summer. The place grows to approximately 70,000 inhabitants, spread over the various districts and campsites. A special feature is the political centrist location structure: Unlike in many tourist hotspots, the animation offers and Einkaufs-/Flaniergelegenheiten not focus on a center. In many districts there are night markets, evening concerts and dance evenings " Barca Dance". The main venue is the central Place de la République in the district Village. Here the classic market takes place.

A few miles north of the historic center, this modern district of La Grande Plage connects. Here you will find the emblem of the municipality, the ship " Le Lydia".

Le Barcarès still belongs to the Roussillon and is therefore marked catalan, which is reflected in numerous festivities. Especially for " bodega " the end of August the old center is adorned with Catalan flags.

A highlight in the event calendar is the fisherman's festival " Fête Fisher'castle " on August 15. During the day attracts the jousting, the so-called " Joutes sétoises ", the tourists at the harbor. In the evening a grand fireworks display takes place, which is accompanied with music and therefore advertised as " pyro - musical spectacle ".
