Prehistory

How many mountains of the region of Lviv is a witness mountain. His name is of Celtic origin. The Celtic prefix "lem " means something like mud or swamp. Probably originated this name because at the foot of the mountain springs the Bara, possibly in prehistoric times poured significantly more water and marshy the surrounding area.

For the Hallstatt period (8th- 5th century BC) there was a Celtic settlement on the Lviv. Even today, an attachment can be seen if you look closely on the top of walls and ditches. To the east and west, the summit plateau was terraced. More remnants of Celtic origin are also found on the immediately adjacent mountains and across the Great Heuberg.

Lemberg tower

As early as 1890 there were plans on the Lviv or his neighbors, the Oberhohenberg to build a wooden tower. The historical significance and comfortable ascent spoke for the Oberhohenberg, the decision to build but ultimately fell in favor of Lviv - mainly because it is the highest mountain of the Swabian Alb. 1894 visited for the first time an engineer and two master craftsmen the terrain. Because it lacked the necessary money, the construction hesitated but further out. 1897 was dropped the previous plans; now we discussed the construction of a stone or iron tower. Since the stone was estimated at 24,000 proud Mark, it was decided to substantially cheaper Eisenbau. Instructs the company Ph. Lazy Ant was from Freiburg. The funds came primarily from a large-scale fundraising.

The foundations were laid in Holy Week 1899. On Whit Monday twelve workers began with the tower construction. Good weather favored the work, so that already on 17 June 1899, the construction was completed. 23 tons of iron were installed; the estimate of 10,000 marks was not exceeded. The rise of the tower is about 152 steps, spread over twelve floors open. The viewing platform is located 30 meters above the ground; with the flagpole on top of the tower together measures 34 meters in height.

Since the construction of approximately every 25 years is a costly major rehabilitation. Especially after the First World War, during which the tower as well as in World War II had no meaning, we toyed with the idea of abandonment in order to save the cost of its rehabilitation can. However, the proposal did not find enough supporters. Finally, the tower was in 1973 and 1999 (? ) Locked for a long time, during which he was restored by volunteers and Gosheim craftsmen.

Mid-80s installed the former telecommunications office Rottweil on the Lemberg tower two directional antennas for microwave link between the telecommunications building in Rottweil and the remote switch in the Gosheim Bahnhofstrasse. This radio link, which do not have direct paths can be set, added, the existing telephone cabling. After the copper cables are increasingly being replaced by fiber optic cable, the wireless connection was always expendable and in 2005, the antennas were dismantled.

The system used passive microwave diversion, because the were Lemberg tower and there is no electricity. For this reason, never wore the tower, apart from this plant, more antennas.
